Hi, I’m Aaron. I’m a psychotherapist dedicated to helping New Yorkers cope and thrive in the fast-paced, demanding, and competitive place that is New York while creating a best life that aligns with your true self.
As a former performing artist, ordained clergy, and college admissions professional, I understand the pressures of public scrutiny. My personal and professional history helps me empathize with the stress and demands my clients face when living in the “public eye” and working in high profile roles and institutions. My own story and experience has shaped not just who I am, but how I approach therapy.
My Approach
You can count on me to engage actively and genuinely in our sessions. I truly believe in bringing my whole, authentic self to sessions. The work I do with you is always a collaborative effort. While my expertise and skills inform my therapeutic approach, our collaboration is entirely centered around you—your goals, your strengths, and your unique potential for growth. Understanding you is at the heart of what I do. I’m here to listen to your experiences and help you take the next steps forward to address current life challenges and long-standing issues with confidence.
My Personal Story & How I Decided To Become A Therapist
I was born in North Carolina and raised on Long Island, where my father served a congregation as ordained clergy. During my undergraduate years, I became captivated by human behavior while taking psychology courses. My passion for learning more about psychology deepened, and I wanted to explore more.
After graduation, my family urged me to consider graduate school, specifically seminary. Although I was initially unsure, I ultimately enrolled, obtaining my first master’s degree and ordination.
Following seminary, I served a congregation where I found fulfillment in assisting individuals and families, but also faced personal challenges. This period led me to reassess my purpose, identity, goals, and even faith. I recognized that I was disconnected from my authentic self and lived contrary to my core values.
Years later, new opportunities called me back to New York City. My interest in psychology and counseling remained strong, leading me to pursue a second graduate degree in mental health counseling at Northwestern University.
What Makes Me Unique?
I bring a unique blend of perspectives to my work as a psychotherapist, drawing from my various professional backgrounds, including the performing arts, theology, psychology, coaching, personal development, and higher education. As a lifelong learner, I’m passionate about expanding my knowledge. I incorporate the depth and diversity of my professional and life experiences into my therapeutic work, blending the old with the new while delighting in the chance to share this journey with my clients.
